The mentioned verse is telling:
...knows what is in the wombs...(Quran 31:34)
Now, the word "what" doesn't specifically mean "what the gender is", but it has a general and broader meaning. It refers to Allah knowledge of the future and the destiny of the child, along with the bestowed goods, and other bads that will happen to the child. (Arabic Source)

Islam does have some restrictions on imagery. Those are mostly in terms of depicting religious figures ( Muhammad, Jesus, Mary, Moses [pbuh] ). However some cultures apply those restrictions to personal lives too based on their interpretation of Islam.

I think you got two mixed up here. Aqeeqa or slaughtering of sheep was a practice even from pre-Islamic days among Arabs whenever a child was born in a house. It's a form of celebration. Aqeeqa means celebration. This was continued even after Islam came.

What ever Allah does, there is something better for him in that.
More than that, we people are more to be pointed at for this situation rather than Allah. We know Allah stops us from any sort of drugs. But still when couple uses drugs and they mate. The children they give birth to, are abnormal; mentally and physically. So is Allah to be blamed here?

Allāh knows not just whether it's male or female. but he knows also what is the qadr (destiny) of this child. Is this child going to be a successful child or not? Is this child going to be righteous or not?
In Islam human life is very valuable. Saving someone's life is like saving the whole mankind. The baby inside dead mom is a separate human being. If mom dies the baby must be saved.

If anyone's sperm goes inside the woman (except her husband) then this is haram. As touching, talking and even gazing any Na-Mehram is haram let alone putting sperms in her (by any means).
