Under the commentary of Koran 33:43 in Ma'ariful Quran, Mufti Muhammad Shafi has cited a narration that states the following:-

Sayydina Ibn ‘Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) has stated that Salah from Allah is a blessing, from angels it is prayer for forgiveness and from humans it is supplication. The word Salah carries all the three meanings. (Commentary of Glorious Koran 33:43, Ma'ariful Quran; Web Source: http://www.islamicstudies.info/quran/maarif/maarif.php?sura=33&verse=41)

My main question is: From what Hadith book did Mufti Muhammad Shafi took this narration? What is the authenticity of this narration?

  • As for the quote I guess you'll find it mentioned in many other tafsirs. As for the authenticity I doubt it being a hadith rather than an interpretation of ibn 'Abbas or others actually ibn Kathir quoted Sufyan at-Thawry saying this see for example here.Further al-Bukhari stated something similar as a statement of abu al-'Aliyyah not ibn 'Abbas. Therefore I wonder if it actually can be traced back to ibn Abbas. – Medi1Saif Oct 8 '20 at 5:52
