When I was little, my father taught me how to read the quran. I had never understood what it really says. Is reading in Arabic more important than understanding what the quran says?

My father says I can't read in my language, Bangla. My father quran hafiz (he memorized it in Arabic) and he didn't know the meaning of quran. I also don't understand what is the point of being Hafiz that way?

  • As a non-arabic speaker, you should start somewhere. There's no escuse to not read the Al-Quran in any language. – AnteDeum Mar 26 at 17:26
