Assalaamu 'aleikum,

I have a question. So the Prophet (SAW) said:”Whoever initiates a bad deed in Islam, will bear the burden of anyone who does it after him.”

Can one repent if they misguide other people?

Yes, someone who misguides others can repent. He should make amends by going back to those people and telling them he gave them incorrect information and telling them the correct information and/or referring them to a scholar. This way, he gets good deeds by repentance and spreading truth. -- And remember, speaking on Allah's religion is not a light matter. Only speak what you've confirmed is true per understanding of the Qur'an/Sunnah. – Muslimah يا رب العالمين Aug 24 at 14:17
  • And what if the person they've misguided doesn't stop after the one that caused them sin told them to stop? – sml fan since 2010 Aug 24 at 20:25

As per my understanding, once the truth has been properly established (with evidences) by the person who repented and told them to stop, if they continue upon the misguidance then that is their own choice and the blame thereforth is only on them, not on the person who repented and presented truth to them. – Muslimah يا رب العالمين Aug 24 at 23:45
  • Thanks, may Allah reward you. – sml fan since 2010 Aug 25 at 15:41
  • Salam, what if one unintentionally led someone to sin and then can't stop them? Will the person still be accountable for their sins? – sml fan since 2010 Sep 13 at 13:50
