I heard the first one should be longer than the second. But how do you decide which to recite?

Simply, you choose whatever surah you'd like! But it is preferred to be in order, like if you're gonna read surat Al-Asr in the first raka'a, its better to read a surah which is after it in order rather than a surah before it, even if it's shorter.

  • Thank you for your answer. Is there no guidance on which to select other tha. Whatever strikes your mood at the time? – Shamoon Aug 11 '15 at 2:28
  • Yes, whatever strikes your mood! Because all is Quraan. However, in some particular prayers, particular Surahs are preferred to be read. Such as the sunnah of salat Al-Subh(Al Fajr), surat Al Kaferoon and surat Al Ikhlas are preferred. – Abdelrahman Ragab Aug 11 '15 at 3:33
