Jul 13, 2023 at 17:12 comment added Hisham @Medi1Saif its extremely strange given how enormous the prophet's following was that there is no extant Hadith book less than a century after he died. In fact, one of the earliest extant documents about the Prophet is something found on the Back of a Syrian bible that mentions the Arabs of Muhmud's conquests.

Jul 13, 2023 at 6:14 comment added Medi1Saif @Maalik I've only quoted what ibn Hajar has mentioned of course Hamam was among the later tabi'yn who collected hadith and taught it from a book. The sahifa of Hamam from the hadith of abu Hurairah is said to be the only still existing book out of the earliest records.
Jul 13, 2023 at 6:14 comment added Medi1Saif @Hisham there are some very early hadith collections attributed to a handful of sahabah among them 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr ibn al-'Aas since these books phsically existed it was narrated that Mujahid saw the sahifa as-Sadiqa of 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr one could call such a book as the earliest collection.

Apr 27, 2017 at 11:56 comment added G. Bach In this answer I reiterate the claims of modern historians that original copies of hadith collections are not extant from a time before roughly the third or fourth century after the death of Muhammad; your answer lists around a dozen such works. Could you comment on whether copies dating back to the lifetimes of their supposed compilers exist today? I can't tell for example whether you mean there are 7-10 still available copies of the Muwatta that exist today and can reliably be dated to the 2nd century hijri. Where can they be found?
