I can see this turning into a good question, but at the moment it's entirely unclear what is being asked here. What do you mean "deal with such people"? –  Ansari Feb 27 '13 at 12:36

I have updated it, it asks for how can a WaliAllah be identified and can the person who sees himself as WaliAllah\saint seek praise and popularity @Ansari –  Islam Feb 27 '13 at 14:33

Generally the saints which the graveworshippers worship and glorify are sufis. The creed of sufism and Islam is two worlds apart.

Wali means Friend.Auliyah is a plural so Auliyah Allah means friends of Allah.

We know Ibraheem (alayhis salatu wassalaam) ,The leader of monotheists was named Khaleel (synonymous to friend ,ie.Wali).But just like other prophets had both hope and fear of Allah.

Even Muhammad sallalahu alayhi wasallam attributed Allah as his Khaleel as in an authentic hadeeth:

Narrated Abu Said Al-Khudri: Allah's Apostle addressed the people saying, "Allah has given option to a slave to choose this world or what is with Him. The slave has chosen what is with Allah." Abu Bakr wept, and we were astonished at his weeping caused by what the Prophet mentioned as to a Slave ( of Allah) who had been offered a choice, (we learned later on) that Allah's Apostle himself was the person who was given the choice, and that Abu Bakr knew best of all of us. Allah's Apostle added, "The person who has favored me most of all both with his company and wealth, is Abu Bakr. If I were to take a Khalil other than my Lord, I would have taken Abu Bakr as such, but (what relates us) is the Islamic brotherhood and friendliness. All the gates of the Mosque should be closed except the gate of Abu Bakr." (Sahih Bukhari.Ch:57.Hadith:6)

Which means even Muhammad (sallalahu alayhi wasallam) is a wali of Allah. But even after this he (sallalahu alayhi wasallam) said:

Narrated 'Umar: I heard the Prophet saying, "Do not exaggerate in praising me as the Christians praised the son of Mary, for I am only a slave. So, call me the slave of Allah and His Apostle." [Bukhari :: Book 4 :: Volume 55 :: Hadith 654]

'A'isha and Abdullah reported: As the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) was about to breathe his last, he drew his sheet upon his face and when he felt uneasy, he uncovered his face and said in that very state: Let there be curse upon the Jews and the Christians that they have taken the graves of their apostles as places of worship. He in fact warned (his men) against what they (the Jews and the Christians) did. [Muslim :: Book 4 : Hadith 1082]

And He (sallalahu alayhi wasallam ) also said:

Narrated Abu Huraira: I heard Allah's Apostle saying, "The good deeds of any person will not make him enter paradise." (i.e., None can enter paradise through his good deeds.) They (the Prophet's companions) said, 'Not even you, O Allah's Apostle?' He said, "Not even myself, unless Allah bestows His favor and mercy on me." So be moderate in your religious deeds and do the deeds that are within your ability: and none of you should wish for death, for if he is a good doer, he may increase his good deeds, and if he is an evil doer, he may repent to Allah." (Book #70, Hadith #577)

So we can see how Leader of all the Prophets,Muhammad sallalahu alayhi wasallam believed.

Comparison to that lets look at what the so called friends of Allah (saints) gave to the muslims. They gave corruption in creed and beliefs and Shirk (polytheism).Look at what Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti, saint from India believed:

Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti's Aqeedah (Beliefs)
