OK, let me start the story from beginning. Muhammad (PBUH) saw this light in Hira Cave where it squeezed the prophet chest and said "Read".
After this , Muhammad was extremely perplexed and thought something was going to happen to him. His wife Khadija was worried, but calmed at the same time and contacted her cousin Waraqah bin Nawfal who this person could be. He was scholar of Chrstinaity.
Waraqah said to Muhamad "This is An-Namus whom Allah had sent to Musa.". This was establishing the line of him being a prophet.
At this time,I believe, Khadija, Abu Bakar, Ali had already embrassed Islam.
Interestingly, Revelation stopped after this for three years. No words from the God or this Angel.
I am also aware that when the prophet was a child, someone opened his chest and cleaned his heart. This is also considered as miracle and inline with someone who can be considered as a prophet.
What we have established so far, is that God did not speak directly to the prophet. An angel told the prophet to read and that is it. No mention that you are the prophet of God. This link says during these three years, whenever the prophet thought about throwing himself off a cliff (he did not know what it was), this angel would appear, ""O Muhammad! You are truly the Messenger of Allah!". I find this weak because it is not part of the Quran.
No doubt the prophet was righteous man, did nothing wrong, extremely pious and trust worthy but Gabrielle never said to him until this point that you are the prophet. His prophethood was assumed because of the 1. statement of Waraqha and 2 because he was indeed a pious man.
I believe the Quran never addressed this issue unless only when people thought he is a magician. Then Allah said verse 61:6
And remember, Jesus, the son of Mary, said: "O Children of Israel! I am the messenger of Allah (sent) to you, confirming the Law (which came) before me, and giving Glad Tidings of a Messenger to come after me, whose name shall be Ahmad."
To me this is quite a late news. In another verse 69:44-46 , God addresses what he would have cut of his aorta if he were to say something wrong.
And if he had fabricated against Us some of the sayings, We would certainly have seized him by the right hand, then We would certainly have CUT OFF HIS AORTA. (Shakir)
That's all I am aware of what God says about Muhammad Peace be upon him as Prophet.
When the prophet was extremely ill before his death, he felt that kind of pain Sahih Bukhari
The Prophet () in his ailment in which he died, used to say, "O `Aisha! I still feel the pain caused by the food I ate at Khaibar, and at this time, I feel as if my aorta is being cut from that poison."
Also I know the verse 33:40 that establishes Muhammad as messenger of God but that is Madini verse and too late to declare the prophet as prophet. The prophet had already established himself by that time.
Muhammad is not the father of any of your men, but (he is) the Messenger of Allah, and the Seal of the Prophets: and Allah has full knowledge of all things.
My questions is: Did Almighty Allah establish the prophet as a true prophet during early Islam in Mekkah? What is the evidence?
