How can the sects at both the opposite ends compromise some of their beliefs or add some beliefs that are not in the fard category to increase cooperation and reconciliation? e.g:

  • Shias\Sufis can stop Invoking "Ya Ali\Umar Madad" and sunnis can stop saying "Radiyallahu Anhu" after Mu'aawiyah.
  • Shias can stop building golden shrines over their Imams and sunnis would recognize their Imams as saints and take good things about piety and love of God from them(i guess they already are).
  • Shias can accept that their Imam linage is now non existent and Sunnis can accept Quran and Sunnah conforming Fiqh from Shia.
  • Many MORE...

I understand that this may sound unrealistic and foolishness to some people but this is the MAY BE the way to move forward. So what can be done at an international level in terms of activism to achieve this?

But why have doctrinal reconciliation at all? Shouldn't we just agree that we have different beliefs, learn to respect each other's differences, and move on? – System Down Mar 27 at 21:53

It is funny how shia and sunni fight each other by the name of their religion. The Quran clearly says to those who states allegiance to the book of Allah SWT should come to agreement. (3:64)

This includes the mu'mins (the believers) of the quran, the nasara (christians) for their injeel(gospel), the yahood (jewish) for their torah, the sabians (older forms of belief systems) whose book/scriptures/scrolls spread by Abraham and previous prophets and messengers, etc. (3:3, 87:19, 5:44, 61:6)

They all claim divinity of their books/scriptures/scrolls.

So how come do the shia and sunni can not come to agreement when they have the same undisputable book the Quran? That is a wonder in itself.

They tend to their own sects and divide on their own ways by instigating wars and affliction unto themselves (30:32).

The Quran is not against difference of opinion or even faith. But when difference of opinion translates into bloodshed that is when the quran talks about division فرقه as in the story of Haroon/Aaron AS (20:94).
