How many wars did prophet Muhamad PBUH participate in?

Question

I have a couple questions:

1. During the time of the Prophet (S), how many wars did he participate in? Did they have peaceful conflicts?
2. Is Islam a religion of peace or war? If it is a religion of peace, why did the Prophet (S) get into so many wars?

Zaid was asked how many غزوة did the prophet Mohmad صلى الله عليه وسلم have ? . He answerd 19 , then He was asked about the number of times that he was with the prophet Mohmad صلى الله عليه وسلم . He said 17 .

and Ahl al seer اهل السير said that it was 25 , and some peopel said 27 , and some people said 29.

And Alhafez ibn Hajr said after he collected these says , the people that mentioned a high number take each event of these as a gazwa, but people who mentioned less take the events that are happened in the same period of time is one Gazwa for example taking bani qareza , al-Khandaq as one Gazwa .

and Sarayas were more , they are from 40-70

Islam is religion of peace., (Not War) despite after so many teachings of Islam (First was of Shadaah) from Prophet Muhammed S.A.W to the unbelievers,they did not accept, so thats y Allah commanded Prophet Muhammed S.A.W to wage a war against them.
