Is it authentic that the Prophet (SAWW) said no one loves Ali (a.s.) unless believer and no one hates him unless hypocrite?

If yes then what is the reason of this? And is this said about any other Sahaba or only about Ali (a.s.)?

I have never heard about this (sunni view) – muslim1 Nov 10 '12 at 12:48

Yes, it is accepted among Muslims that The Prophet (PBUH) had said that, and he did so only about Ali (AS). Ali (AS) was the first man to become a Muslim, even before Abu Bakr, and this is a proven fact in both Sunni and Shi’i sources.

  • Musnad Ahmed: Hadith 25523
  • Sunan Al-Tirmithe: Hadith 3651

Could you support your answer with hadeeth? – rowman Jan 16 '13 at 22:01
The hadeeth in Arabic: "يا علي لا يحبك إلا مؤمن ولا يبغضك إلا منافق" – Drycola Jan 16 '13 at 22:13
inre "...and he did so only about Ali": the prophet is also reported to have said the same about the Ansar as a whole (at least among Sunni ahadith, e.g. Bukhari 3783) – goldPseudo Jan 16 '13 at 22:55
@Drycola The audience of this site does not completely know Arabic. So, please if you can find a English translation to the same hadith over the internet, or point to a link that does so, will help people understand the answer you provide. – mtk Jan 17 '13 at 11:05
